Just for your information, IOSPE is a good reference but far from being the most accurate. Many pictures do not correspond with the species listed. So, my suggestion, do not kill yourself in a glass of water, but looking and comparing those pictures.
As for Max. cucullata, I would not make a big deal out of it, and take the plant that is normally sold as such (unless you get something completely different!)... It's a similar case with Paphiopedilum primulinum, where most plants you get now as such (especially in USA, Canada and Taiwanese imported plants) are supposed to be a hybrid and not the true species, which is very small and fragrant, and not those monsters you normally get. Everybody knows that and still "everybody" is happy with those plants..
