Over here you can find quite cheap orchids in big supermarkets for instance, around 8 euros (5$ )or even less... there are phals but many others, oncidiums, odontos etc...Of course i don't like the idea of throwing them after they flourished , so i try to keep them whenever i myself buy one. sometimes it's easy and they have new bloom quite soon and sometimes it seems it takes them ages to adapt ...I can't say that i like this mass culture thing but maybe buying some of those orchids is a way for some people to get acquainted and fall in love with orchids and buy more and species...
