This is Brazilian species found in the southeast region of Bahia. The plant has some singular traits , it is mostly unifoliate (occasionally it can be bifoliate, especially while young), but the flower is characteristic of the bifoliate Cattleyas, the stems are very thin and curve down under the weight of the leaf when the plant is a little higher. The size of adult plants varies from 6 cm until 15-18 cm in height. I have never seen more than one flower on the floral stem, but reports say that up to three can be born. The central lobe of the lip and the column tip form a square angle not seen in any other species of the alliance. A few varieties are known, like punctata, rubra and caerulea. Never heard of an alba.
