Like a lot of you SH growers I have most of my SH collection now in 32 oz Deli Containers with side holes (I use a soldering iron to make the holes). For upsizing large specimens I have not figured out what to use that is inexpensive and simple. 64oz Deli containers like what Ice Cream containers seem to wide and shallow, yet ?? To bad nursery containers always have holes!

i use ceramic or glass pots...

i'll get large ceramic pots from ross with no holes on the bottom, drill them, then throw them in there... i don't like the plastic containers... looks very cheap...

Try looking at a pond supply store. Some of the pots are baskets but others are solid without holes (so that certain pond plants cannot take over the entire pond or grow through the liner).

Just saw the previous post...the glass looks really nice!

Go to K--Mart, Wal-Mart, Bed bath & Beyond, Dollar Stores, even Lowes or Home Despot, and look at ANY plastic container. Trash cans, buckets, coolers, you name it.

I strongly recommend AGAINST melting the holes with a soldering iron, as the fumes can be toxic, and certainly bad for the environment. Look for a "Uni-Bit" for your drill. Works great on plastic and leaves a very clean edge.

Somewhere on line I was looking at a growers nice grow space outside. They had a lot of beautiful orchids and even had a laundry basket planted with an assortment. The basket was a dark color and you could see spag moss hanging out of all the holes. It was really interesting looking and not at all ugly. Pretty neat idea for outdoor growing.

One problem with most plastic household items - they break down in months when exposed to ultraviolet light. This isn't much of an issue for windowsill or greenhouse growers; glass blocks UV light. It is a potential problem if your plants spend much time outside, or under lights that produce some UV.
