Anything sturdy you can drill/melt holes in & get the plant in.. ...I used an opaque vinegar jug cut down & washed thoroughly...so the possibilites are endless...

The large Powerade bottles worked real well for me. Being transparent and decorative they also look very nice with the pebbles showing through.

Do you mean s/h pots, or single plant watering systems?

I use regular clay pots, that have a piece of PVC pipe 0.5-3/4" diameter, 1-1.25" high, glued with PVC pipe glue. A piece of gutter mesh is glued to the top of the pipe using the same glue, you can use any type of mesh (orange bag, garlic bag etc.).
One side of the pot needs to be sealed. For that I use type II clear silicone (rub on and wipe off), or car clearcoat.

I am seeing root growth on my slippers & phals...so far I am convinced and have already switched 2/3 of my collection to SH. Here is naother pot idea..this is a regular aircone pot...hubby plumber glued small pieces of plexi glass over the slits...drilled the 2 SH holes at the center aircone level and wah lah ! A semi hydro pot !

I love S/H 99% of my potted orchids are in it and all doing quite well, i started back in 2005 and I have spent the last 3 weeks potting everything up from 4.5 inch pots to 6 inch or 8 inch pots
