YES -SH for Oncidiums in my conditions

Hi just wanted to share as these are 'flourishing' with the change!

I transferred a Onc. 'sharry baby' as well as Onc.spacelatum & a couple Onc. noids into S/H ..
I amazed at how they are growing.. I also have a couple phals but growth is nowhere near this!

Great root growth! Maybe I should think of moving my oncidiums to SH too.

They look really happy! I'd like to try some oncidiums in S/H also.
Are your conditions normally very humid or do you water every day? I notice that the top layer of pellets looks damp. Mine seem to dry every day.

Yes, these look quite healthy! When did you do the transfer in the growth cycle of the plant? I'm having some reservations on transferring one of my Oncs because of the difficulty I'm having finding new root growth. The roots are already quite small, and I dont want to unpot trying to figure out when I should do the repot. Would love to know what you did. But either way, nice work!

I transferred all of my orchids to semi hydroponics the first 2 weeks of last month. I have seen rapid improvements in my plants in 2 weeks.

I had a lot of trouble in other media. I put my stressed plants (some almost rootless) in LECA. Many had small roots (trying to compensate for the lost /rotted roots they had). Some people in other threads have said that you should have a few inches of roots. I did not wait for anything to grow. They were all stressed and trying to put out roots. I transferred mine so they would not die. Roots have sprouted in all. If the plant is growing roots, at least in my experience, it will keep growing them.

As long as the plant is in a growing phase, it will adapt.

I transferred phals, oncidium, catts and miltoniopsis. Phals in flower did not miss a beat!!

Yeah I love buying phals on sale... ha... but they are most often in straight sphag, so I do a quick S/H repot, and they really do survive well, even in already in spike. Just my experiences though

Nice. I put my onc sharry babies in sh and they're spiking after two years without folowering. Oncidiums really love the even moisture sh provides at the roots and local humidity from the pellets
