Question Source for fine grade hydroton

Haven't been able to find this online anywhere? Anyone know a good source (read: cheap) for fine grade hydroton or aliflor? thanks.

Hey there RAy!!! LOLOLOLOL

Lemme ask you a question though--how small is it?

I'm looking to pot up some rupics with 100% LECA and these need to go into 2 x 2 Aircone pots. Hmmmm...the aliflor seems to be the tiniest in diameter, but I can't find it anywhere cheap? Is the fine grade aliflor very small?

Thanks. I saw it on your site but I really can't tell the difference size wise.

I grow my rupics in the regular size Prime Agra in 3" clay pots. I do not sort the PA by size, whatever hits my hand goes in the pot.

Because the PA provides such good drainage I do not worry about over watering the plants. I put them in the appropriate size pot for a mature sized plant.

The "fine grade" is about the size of peas, although it is labeled as 4-10 mm. The coarse stuff is 10-16.

I'm chiming in here to post an interesting side bit. In my smaller s/h chids, I find that sometimes the hydroton can be rough on the roots so I have been putting a small bit of sphag moss around them.

I did this especially with the small Epidendrums and they took off like crazy after several months of me scratching my head trying to figure out why they weren't doing great in the s/h.

Whether or not it is from the moss...who knows for sure. I am convinced that little bit of protection was just the ticket they needed.

Anyway....

I would bet that the issue was the LECA drying too much. The moss helped slow the evaporation.
