When I do use it - and I'll admit it's not as often as I should - I spray the entire greenhouse, plants, ceiling, walls, floors, benches, and the plants all get drenched in the process, (as do I).

Well, Ray, look on the bright side.....algae shouldn't grow on you, either.

How often should one use the physan 20? I just bought some today and wanted to begin using it prophylatically? I read the directions and it said 2tsp/gallon. Is that what everyone else uses? And how often? Do you let them soak in it for a few minutes? Thanks for the help!

Well, I am not an expert, but I have been growing orchids for 10 years and I have used Physan 20 regularly on my orchids. I mainly grow cattleyas and cat. alliance plants. When I used the product for the firts time I asked a professional grower for an advice. What he told me has worked pretty well for me here in Miami. Use the recommended dossage on label (2 tsp/gal of water), water the plants previously with plain water, soak them, then wait an hour or two and apply the solution of Physan20 to the plants, two or three applications spaced several minutes in between. ALWAYS APPLY PHYSAN 20 EARLY IN THE MORNING OR LATE AFTERNOON, NEVER MIX THE PRODUCT WITH ANY KIND OF FERTILIZER OR ANOTHER FUNGICIDE. Apply fertilizer next watering (4-5 days after)
The effects of Physan 20 on algae is not evident until several days following application. Physan 20 is not a miracle and does not cure a preexisting conditon. Alliette or subdue have been more effective to control fungi. It controls algae for real!!
Bathe phalaenopsis with a premix solution with water and Physan 20 on a regular schedule and does not allow the plants to stand inmersed in that solution for a period of time because it can damage foliage and the precious root tips and stop growing of plant.

Katie, I use it prophylactically at 1 teaspoon per gallon, and similar to Sr. Gonzales, limit the treatment to early morning only.

Thank you Ray and RGonzalez. One last quick question. Do you just pour some of the diluted solution into the plant mulch or do you soak? And is best to do this several times over a few minutes or is once sufficient? Thanks guys! - Katie

Yes, soak the plants the same way you apply when using other chemicals. With a sprayer apply to the entire plant and the pot until you see the solution running off the pot (drench it), if you have other plants start from the first one to the last plant, then start the procedure again, and then one more time. (3 times). That would be sufficient!!! Always use room temperature water, never warm or cold. Never apply the solution to mounted plants that haven't been watered previously.

Thanks! You rock! I've never used chemicals on my chids before so this is a whole new ballgame for me! I'll let you know how it turns out!

I wasn't sure about mine either, so I did what Ray said. Washed the old pot with the dishwashing liquid and repotted to the clean one.

Interestingly, NONE of my other s/h are having the algae issue EXCEPT my Max tenuifolia...weird.

I guess I didn't clean the gatorade bottle enough when I first potted it. Anyway it's clean now and I don't have to post a question because y'all already answered it.
