Should I put a C. Landate in SH? Male
Default Should I put a C. Landate in SH?

Hello all! I'm hoping to get some advice or opinions on weather or not I should put my C. Landate in SH. Right now it's growing in what I beleive is marble which doesn't hold much water and allows a lot of air flow. The only problem is I have to water it everyday. It just started putting out new roots which is a perfect time to repot. I'm worried since I bought it in this media that maybe this breed will die in excessive moisture. Any and all comments will be greatly appritiated. Thank you!

Sure, but be aware that the old- and new root environments will be SO different, that the existing roots are going to crap out in fairly short order.

If it is just forming new roots, the timing is great, but you're going to want to pamper that puppy for a while until it really gets growing.

I am very interested in your experience since I have not yet succeded with aclandia, or any hybrids close to their acclandia heritage. They are the fussiest catts I have tried. Some have grown but never really thrived and root growth remained stingy, and very seasonal, whatever media I tried. I grow in a house with central heat but some of my other Catt hybrids grow and bloom like weeds year around and need yearly division to fit their space. I will keep trying and let you know.

If I lived in Fla. I would leave the plant in the media that it seems to do well in right now, gradually increase the light, and experiment when it has enough reserves to live on during a radical transition of to a very different media. In my opinion, your plant only has marginal reserves built up right now. I would only consider increasing the size of the pot so you don't have to water every day, or even, put the current pot into a larger pot with lecca without disturbing the roots.

I just can't muster up the will to put this guy in S/H, sorry Ray... though you did give me the confindence to put a C. Loddiglossa 'Blues' x C. leopoldii var. coerulea in S/H. I keep it in the highest lighht possible on my balcony, it gets full shade part of the day and then about 80-90% sun for about 4 hours. The leaves are a very nice bright green. That and the growth that just matured already has a new growth coming off of that one. I really think I'm going to end up putting this guy on a nice piece of riverwood I have and put a thin layer of sphag beneath it. But I'll wait till that new growth matures so I might get a bloom out of it. Thanks for the advice!
