Ray, thanks for the info. I just ordered the Psychopsis even though I already have one. It is doing so well in S/H and so pretty that at that price I couldn't rest another one. No willpower, or desire to control myself.

Thanks everyone for the fantastic wealth of knowledge and experience shared in this thread! I'm taking the S/H plunge. I ordered the starter kit, as well as a couple extra pots and medium for them, from Ray's. One of the plants I'm looking to transfer is my psychopsis.

I'll continue to read through the threads here in S/H and glean from them as much as I can! I'll probably end up starting my own to ask specific questions and kind of journal my journey when the time comes.

What varieties do you have? I would love to know.

I have repotted some into S/H and they do well but my conditions are much different than yours. I live in Michigan, so I have to grow them in my house. One nice thing about psychopsis is even though the spikes can grow very tall the plant itself doesn't take up much room. Another thing about them, some have such fantastic foliage.

I have had my Psychopsis Mendenhall in S-H since '05, using the 2-pot system. It has been in bloom since Feb. '07. It is growing in a south facing window in Central AZ. so your plant will probably do well in S-H.

Go ahead. You can never have too many Psycopsis. Once you establish it in SH you can alway give it away as a present. I gave one to my neighbor a year ago and it has been blooming on and off ever since near an East window with no supplemental light and very little attention.

I have my new one from Ray planted in S/H. When I got it it had a tiny spike forming, it is now about 6" tall. The Mendehall I got from Ray had more, and darker, spots on the foliage then the other one I have. I especially like the beautiful foliage.

I would love to know what varieties you grow.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to update you all on my lovely psychopsis, now in SH. When I started this thread over a month and a half ago I hadnt seen any evidence of new growth - then lo and behold - I saw 5 roots just starting out from what I now recognize as the youngest bulb. I replanted immediately into SH!

The youngest/newest bulb is pretty elevated above the SH level, so the roots are still making their way down, but they are growing steadily and well. In the meantime, my largest spike has a bloom opening , with 2 buds lined up behind it. Amazingly, a second spike is growing up and up and, unless it is a newer growth again, a THIRD flower spike is coming up too!

So, so far, the transition to SH is going well. Hopefully it wont be too much longer till those roots hit the SH and I will post another update to let you all know how it goes!
