Ramon, what did you ever end up doing with your orchid you suspected had a virus? This thread reminded me of it and thought I'd ask!

Sandy, I think you're phal is really pretty! I would of gotten it too. I hope it doesn't have a virus. The thought would of never even occurred to me!

well, the nursery replied saying they were sure it was not a virus but effect of too strong temp changes when blooming. I should wait until until next bloom, and see. If it would have continued with the weird coloration they would replace the plant. So, I kept the plant isolated from all other and waited. The plant started to produce new shoots (more than any other Catt I have! it was a relative small plant and had 6 shoots!!). All shoot started with a nice gree-redish colours showing it had enough light too. Suddenly all shoots and old leaves started to become chlorotic, and i lost my patience, sent photos to the nursery and the plant to the bin. And I received two Paph as replacement

I'm with Ray on this I surely would keep it away from the other plants, maybe have it tested IMO.

Hi Sandy

I am pretty sure its some mosaic or other virus. I have experienced leaf and flower malformation induced by colchicine overdose and generally in these cases the older leaves start deformed and with time the new ones become regular.

The fact that the newest leaf shows more marked
malformation than the older ones makes me pretty sure
its a virus. I would not keep that plant with or near others.

Hello!
Thank you all for great inputs. I have sad news, that plant is dying on me! I've just had i for a very short time (see first post in this thread) and the flowers have just dropped dead. The buds just got wrinklier and wrinklier and fell off too. I did not do anything to the plant, just gave it some water.
It must have been a sick plant. None of my other new orchids have behaved this way, they have been doing very good actually.
This one is going down the trash can...

I'm afraid my gut instinct says virus too. I would go so far as to isolate the plant (though viruses rarely kill plants) as you wouldnt want your other plants changing to that. Semi hydro plants are looking good i must say. I am experimenting myself and I cautiously thing i am getting results though it's early days.

Sweetie, your orchid isn't dying on you. It sounds more like bud blast, which is something that happens quite often when a blooming plant is moved from one environment to another. Very common.

I would just keep that orchid away from the others and leave the spike on the plant. Once it is acclimated to its new environment, the spike may branch and form new buds.

Thumbs up

Sandy the chids you have placed in the s/h medium are looking good. I rescued several Phals. and repotted them in s/h and they were not well when I got them they had soft leaves and most of the roots were rotten but I did it anyway and in time those Phals are putting out new roots and leaves and all the leaves are back to normal. Have faith it may take some time but don't give up. It will take time for roots to start growing.
