Cats? Here, hold my beer. I had, operative word - had, a parrot. This guy loved plants. He would fly over and devour a plant in seconds. I had a bat plant that I had grown from a seedling. It was doing wonderful, until he got hold of it. Chomp. Right down to the soil level. Now, no more parrot and plants are doing fine.

Maybe you've already done this, but you could try putting something on or around the plants your cat likes.

Granted, a lot of orchids don't like stuff on their leaves, not even water. I was thinking a solution of Neem oil, as the stuff smells funky but I'm not sure if an orchid would or wouldn't mind that or if it would deter a cat.

If all else fails, you could try dabbing some castor oil on the pots and hope your cat is dumb enough to lick it, lol.

EDIT: actually nevermind. Castor oil is potentially bad for cats. Maybe try a little hot sauce on the outside of the pots, I have no idea.

I have two budgies who get to free-fly in the house. They love the leaves of my hoyas. I let them chomp some leaves because in the summer I put them out and they grow huge again. They hate eating vegetables but will eat the live leaves of house plants. (Hoyas are not toxic to birds). They have also gone after my epiphitic cactus. They leave the orchids alone. Not juicy enough.
