Here's a summary of this thread, so far:

You want someone else to get the plants established for you, but don't want to pay for that service.

And, apparently, if you did find someone to do that, then you'd complain about the shipping cost.

Sheesh.

I occasionally sell plant already established in s/h.

I can't imagine many people selling plants already in hydroton or otherwise-- though it isn't overly expensive for the individual, I imagine moss or something similar is a lot cheaper, no?

I love repotting-- I've repotted every orchid I've bought right away simply because I want to know the healthy of the roots. And I'm glad i have.

well the extra cost would probably balance out the money you'd have to spend to get the s/h stuff.

and then add in the subjective value of getting a plant that is already established and adjusted to a great system.

i'd be much more inclined to pay a little more to ensure healthy plant that wouldn't have it's growth potentially stunted by re-potting from a traditional system.

I don't think anyone's complaining Ray. Not sure where that came from.

I was at Al's Orchid Greenhouse in Leesburg, VA last Saturday and he has about 3/4 of his orchids in LECA now.

Cheers.

It probably came from exhaustion, and certainly was not intended to be aimed at anyone. My apologies.

It looked to me like Ray was making a point about shipping cost. A lot of us find our new plants in moss which is broken down to the point that it need immediate repacement - but shipping in moss is easy. How would you keep all those little marbles in the pot and after all you are shipping rocks - either way - you get a cost problem. Rocks are expensive to ship! It looks like the result would be something delicate on one end
(the plant) and heavy on the other (rocks). Myself I would rather repot into whatever I want to grow in and almost always do - no matter what the plant is shipped in.

Actually that was my point. Shipping in LECA would be prohibitively expensive for most due to it's weight and that's probably why you don't see a lot of plants for sale in it.
