I only see two growths in the photo. Why do you want to divide it? A large, multi-growth plant will give you more abundant flowers sooner than single growth plants (if thy bloom at all). Just repot.

Water quality will sometimes turn the roots brown but not kill them. If they are still plump they are probably OK. If you've had the plant for a month the flower failure may be normal.
