It's not really bark...it is coconut husk chips/chunks. Which is chunks of coconut shell/husk that have been chopped up. It's great because it is chunky and airy but it holds water like a sponge...

Memphis tends to be pretty muggy in the summer, right? If so, a swamp cooler won't be all that effective. They work much better at cooling in lower humidity climates.

Unfortunately, it looks like 'Dark Clone' opted to abort the flower spike...it dried up and now it's making what appears to be a new growth. Oh well, there's always next year.
