It's common for a lot of orchids to grow roots like that. Sometimes it's because they're very healthy, and sometimes it's because the medium is old and the roots in the medium are rotting.

Sharing water may eventually lead to disaster. Most people try not to do that. Same with misting, unless ambient humidity is quite low.
