I live in Thailand and have many many Orchids..... too many to count actually ( can't count past 10,000) LOL.... Humidity is a great factor here, but also making sure the roots don't stay wet is...

I would mount it in an upward position, and put some sphagnum moss around the roots and tie the roots close to the wood....you'll have to support the top of the plant as well.
