I think it's that when you get a new plant, if it has new growths---those are full, and then that orchid grows more leads and new bulbs (etc) and in contrast the older bulbs look less---full.

LOL, no---it's actually quite a floral smell, and very pleasant. Candy smells I think are more in the oncidium (Twinkle and Sherry Baby---respectively Vanilla and coco-puff chocolate).

They're not new growths, they're spikes---all but two of them. They're currently developing their buds but the sheath-like aspect of the spike has opened...
