Nothing to lose then I guess. The cane was broken, but still attached after I fell while carrying it last April. I attempted to salvage it by splinting it, but I guess that didn't work. The parent...

Question Leafless keikis on a den phal cane

I now have two keikis on a damaged cane, lots of roots, but leaves dry up before opening. The cane is now getting pretty shriveled. Should I cut the keikis off and pot them? Don't leaves need to be...

How and when to repot

I have no idea of how to care for this little guy other than feed and water sparingly. It appears to be potted in soil. My wife likes it so much, she insists I name it after her, so Nancy it is.

Vanda (Ascocentrum) Miniata

It still has 5 unopened blooms, but it's really cute. Mystery is solved anyway. I wonder if this is a really rare species or very common.

But during the winter, humidity is quite low due to heating the cold air. I used to spend a lot of time using the hot tub which raised the humidity, but that was running the electric bill too high....

Thanks guys. I guess spritzing them isn't enough, so I'll try dunking them a few times a week. I thought that the copious nectar leaking from leaves and canes, even deformed ones is from excessive...

I feed and water almost weekly and give all at least a spritzing daily. Some also still have some nectar on some of the other leaves. But I'll try increasing the water. I was thinking it was due...

Deformed leaves on my denphals

Besides the leaves growing all wrinkled, some flower spikes curl around and start growing into leaf axils. In attempting to release one, I fractured it, but it's still growing out horizontally.

Spike is progressing

Still not quite in bloom, but looks like it's gonna be yellow.
It even has two infinitesimally tiny droplets of nectar on the flower spike.

Denphal ancestry

So Denphals are crosses between dendrobiums and phalenopsis? Is the den parent the den nobile? And I presume sympodial is the dominant trait since the phal parent is monopod.

Tiny flies around my orchids

These flies are amazingly fast and incredibly tiny. They only appear when I disturb my plants, spinning around and then disappearing again. Is this a problem?

Idea for naming NoIDs

I've taken to naming my NoIDs after the female members of the family, from stepdaughter to neices, grandaughters, and a greatgranddaughter. They don't get a name until they bloom though.
