Well that's good to know. I use medium size bark chips and it still stays moist at the bottom long after the top has dried out. That's the reason for making ventilation holes towards the bottom....

If light and temperature along with humidity are adequate could it be they need more nitrogen ? I feed weakly-weekly with mostly Dyna-Gro orchid pro which is a 7-8-6 formula and do have Miracid here...

I agree with Arizona Jean. In the garden it needs reapplied after a rain to be effective , so adding to potting mix most likely won't be of any use . Just my opinion.
