Contrary to popular belief, it seems at least a few Pahs are fragrant. They would include lowii and primulinum, at least in my experience. And malipoense is supposed to smell like raspberries...

Yes. The grasshoppers (and that may include katydids) take an occasional bite out of my Ansellia leaves, which are similar to the leaves of Cymbidium even if the pseudobulbs aren't.

It seems to me a Cymbidium, with its thinner leaves, would be more likely to be eaten by a katydid than, say, a Cattleya.

It is possible as long as they aren't too far gone. One of the dormant buds may be induced to wake up and produce a new pseudobulb at the base of which there will be new roots. It will be some time...
