Have you seen this before?

Holds media together in a compact manner. Looks like spider web, but is much stronger. Engulfs roots, but was able to wash and carefully rub off.

What's this? I did an image search on Google and it said ants. :scratchhead:

Beneficial or pest? Found around and on orchids in sphagnum moss. Looks like dirt specks to the naked eye.
