It's definitely mold and I have let it dry out...

This is a new orchid that I repotted into a new pot and new media. Within a day or so it started growing this fuzzy fibrous stuff which is between the two layers of this pot. It's a net pot...

I don't think you should be disappointed mine is that size it's a very small plant I can tell mine has bloomed so don't be too disheartened. I think most of us got plants around that size.
