Yes... There is a second spike. That first spike had 10 blooms. The second has 13.

I accidentally knocked one of the blooms off of that first spike, so there would have been 11... ah well.

Get a dark pot, and slip your plastic pot inside it. No light = no algae. And take it out to look at the roots when you feel like it.

I would suggest that the way Ramon does it would work also. If you didn't have fungus problems, then baking would work. If you heated to over 400 degrees F, then you would be pretty sure of killing...
