I do 16 hours a day, but I am only using florescent. (and not super strong) so I make up for slightly low light by time. They seem healthy and happy (even my succulents survive the winter).

I've never had leaves like that "plump up" They usually hang around long enough for the new leaves to form and take over. The old ones just turn yellow and fall off. The orchid's will be fine.
