I have mixed results...I can get 3-4 years from them then suddenly they go downhill. Fungal spotting is a common problem for me. Currently I have 6.

This one is in bloom...Bert Fields.

BTW, the plant is S. siedenfadenii, not fragrans! Several senior moments rolled into one.

They seem to like my conditions, so no, I don't find them finicky, but then I don't have the high summer heat like most parts of the US.
