Thanks, Paul, I'll have to consider that when I cut it up. Some of the stubs are pretty big (about 6" long and 2-3" diameter), but the pockets could be useful for bigger orchids.

I use a Brother PT-H100 printer, which is about $20. The printing doesn't fade, it's perfectly legible, and for making more than 2 or 3 labels it's faster than writing by hand.

I've never seen any at TJ stores here in San Francisco. For one thing, they're not very forgiving of unfavorable environments, and if they aren't kept moist they'll croak pretty quickly.
