I bought my first orchid in 1958 on my honeymoon in Florida. We saw a sign along the highway and stopped just for curiosity. The man who sold the plants potted them in gravel. Of course, it didn't...

So who's put their plants out already?

I am still struggling to get all my plants out. Due to back problems, being on my feet for any length of time is painful. I also have some large ferns that desperately need to come out. One plant...

Are drainage holes needed?

IF you grow your plants in an outer decorative pot w/o drain holes and have them outside, you will have to drain the water out every time it rains. That is a regular pain because, as Ray noted, you...

I just received a C. Jose Marti 'Mother's Favorite' from Hausermann's. A huge plant in a 10" pot with four spikes. Anxiously awaiting the blooms.

Thanks all for your responses. I guess I did not make myself clear. The plant appears to have roots on the older growths and has bloomed but it is in that broken pot with sphagnum (which does not...

Phal gigantea with yellowing leaves

It does not look very good. It has just one leaf (large) left and what looked like a root emerging seems to be drying up. I'm really not optimistic about its surviving the winter. :(
