Time Interval Between Pollinating and Harvesting

Hi Folks,

I'm a hobbist hybridizer. I was hoping to find out if anyone knows the time interval between pollination and harvesting of capsules for embryo culture for:

Zygopetalums
Bletllias
Barkerias

Also does anyone know of any good flasking companies? I'm looking to change to one I'm using for better results.

I can offer my personal experience with Bletilla striata; the capsules turn brown and split open in the fall, 4-5 months after blooming.

Seeds can be sown directly on suitable medium as Bletillas have enough fuel stored in the seed for germination.

Thanks for the info CambriaWhat. Just to be on the safe side I may still have to get my Bletilla hybrid cultivated still, it's crossed with a Zygo hybrid.

Wait, you crossed Bletilla with Zygopetalum? Will that produce viable seed?

Actually somehow I got a seed pod, it's been growing for over a month now. I'm surprised too. I usually don't do normal hybrid crosses. I remember hearing about someone successfully making a Brassia X Cattleya cross which made the AOS Bulletin, no photo, but it was registered.

Could it have been Brassavola x Cattleya?

Orchids often grow seed pods, it doesnt allways mean there is viable seed inside.

True, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've been hybridizing odd crosses for years, this is nothing new, just the variety.

(Brassia not possible, it's not in same alliance / tribe) likely Brassovola x Cattleya as mentioned already.

Bletilla x zygopetalum equally unlikely

As the chromosome counts don't line up for Bletilla 32, zygopetalum 48. But hey nothing ventured nothing gained.
