Default light difference on orchid seeds growing

Dear friends,
I know that certain seeds, after sowing, shoud be stored in a darker place, respect to the big part of them that are preferring a daylight to grow.
Someone could help me giving a list of which seed needs this kind of treatment? Or indicating me which genus?

Thanks in advance.

Ciao

Cool subject! I don't know the answer and would like to take a guess before someone answers.
I would assume that terrestrial orchids would need dark seed growth as their seeds would most likely germinate under leaf litter and under other taller plants in the wild.
Epiphytes, I assume should be given adequate light, I'm thinking of a seed that lands on a tree limb and grows in dappled sunlight. Or twig epiphytes that probably get harsh sunny and dry conditions from the beginning.

I just put seedings under the tables that I am already growing large orchids and they seem to do well.

Happy Growing!

It depends on the individual cross. Cyps and phals need far less light than vandas and encyclias. Unless you're equipped for large areas of a given intensity, start with "Normal" indirect light and place those in the darker sections. The way we handled it was to put the "bright" growers on top row, medium (catts etc.) on the second row under them, and phals and such on the bottom row.

Because of lacking experience, i don't really know exactly about seedlings light requirements. i move my seedlings several times to places judging by the color of the leaves. Starting at lower light, if the leaves too dark, i move to slightly brighter, till i get the right constant color. Don't want to do it the other way around to avoid unreversable sunburn damage.
