Default Encyclia phoenicia nomenclature

Howdy,

This is my first post to this board, but I've been reading for a couple months now and learning from all of you.

I'm trying to find out if Encyclia phoenicia is a current name or if it's a synonym? And if it's a current name, does it have any synonyms? I've been searching, but I'm not finding much information on it.

Thanks!

Joan

You have the species name slightly misspelled: it's Encyclia phoenicea also known by the older name: Epidendrum phoeniceum. Perhaps that will help in your search. Here's a link, too, to a picture and some other information: IOSPE PHOTOS

Default Nomenclature of Encyclia

E. phoenicea is the correct name according to Withner. Quite a few Encyclias of the 'clam shell' type have been put in new genera, but not this Cuban/Bahamian one.
It is listed as Epidendrum phoenicea quite often.
