Default 1st Deflasking Leomesezia (Howeara) Lava Burst 'Puanani'

Sharing my first deflasking of an orchid that's been on my wishlist since 2003. It's a Leomesezia (Howeara) Lava Burst 'Puanani'.

There where over 40 plants in the flask and they where surprisingly large. The discoloration on the leaves of the last picture is from the crappy flash on my tablet.

Do you guys think it's OK to lightly spray with Kelpmax to help with new root growth. I soaked them in Physan 20 when deflasking and I believe that it somewhat retards root growth, so am thinking of using Kelpmax to counteract that. I have used Kelpmax on both seedling and adult plants with excellent results in the past but never used it with plants just coming out of a flask.

Also, any advice on how early I can try mounting some of these? I have three terrariums which I use for my smaller orchids and want to add these to some or all the terrariums.

Awesome!

I haven't done deflasking myself, so hopefully some other members can answer your questions.

Kelpmax is commonly used on seedlings just out of flask. Go right ahead.

The larger seedlings here could be mounted anytime once they get past the deflask shock and show active growth.

It looks like a very healthy bunch. You're going to have a lot of plants.

PaphMadMan: Thank you. I just sprayed with Kelpmax today and will be mounting as soon as they look ready.

Tindomul: I used a hammer to gently smash the back of the bottle and slid the entire orchid mat out the back. Took a while to carefully untangle all the roots from each other.
