Default Dendrobium Flasking

I will be flasking Dendrobium seed soon. The pod split on me unexpectedly. I will be doing dry seed. It is a cross of mini antelopes. Has any flasked these? What media do you use? I was planning on using P656 from Phytotech. Anything special you do? I sown many Phal seeds, but this is my first time doing anything other than Phals.

I'm sure germination time varies a lot from type to type, but some dens are really quick and easy (less than two weeks for protocorms to form).

I've had good success with seeding different types of dendrobiums in P565 so that sounds like plan.

Good luck.

So you sow the seed directly onto the P656?

I use P656 for Phalaenopsis, but I do not start the seed on it.

Ops...! Sorry. No, I use P6668 for sowing. Cattleya, phalaenopsis and dendrobiums.

I don't have a glove box or laminar flow cabinet so I sow few seeds in each flask and keep them until they can be planted in community pots. So no replating. I've tried it a couple of times, but I don't manage to get them sterile.

So P6668 all the way from germination to seedlings.

This is probably not ideal, it's just how I'm working with the stuff I have easily available.

I'm curious how long yours will take to germinate.

I know it probably varies a lot from species to species, but I tried to sow some dendrobium unicum seeds together with some christyanum and lituiflorum, and while the two others germinated within 2-3 weeks, the unicum seeds haven't done a thing more than 2 months later.
