When it comes to the natural production of keikis, gentics have a lot to do with it. Some species are more prone to keikis than others (equestris and pulchra come to mind) and hybrids containing 'keiki machine' species somewhere in their parentage are more likely to produce keikis.

As to forcing keikis with paste, I don't know if this genetic trait is any help or not, or if it just has to do with the different levels of hormones.

Do a search for "Keiki Grow Plus". It is from Canada but ships to USA no problem. Orchidmall.com/hormones/

There is also another product called Keiki Pro which is a liquid that you spray on and is more stable than keiki paste.

With all due respect, because I don't say this to get anyone's nose out of joint... cuz I'm retired and don't fix noses anymore.... but the liquid has to be reapplied more frequently because it is water soluble and washes of.... at least that is my understanding while the paste is a lanolin based material and is reapplied about every 10 days until you see a new keiki.

BikerDoc - My nose is out of joint but not because of anything you've said. It has been broken 3 times. I totally agree with you about the ease of use of keiki paste, however and it may have changed, it at one time had to be refridgerated or else it would go bad. I simply find Keiki Pro much more user friendly for me.

PS - Any chance of getting you to work on my nose?

As for the nose.... of course! You got some orchids to trade... And do you really want to trust that wonderful nose to a 64 y/o retired doc.... well, do ya???!!!

I do know that the paste does have about a year shelf life and I didn't refrigerate mine. maybe had I done that it would have lasted longer.... cuz it wasn't cheap! And I do agree a spray here and there is easier and less messy than the paste.
