Fake Orchid Seeds?

Hi,

My two cents :

- turkish guy : scammer, fake seeds. Got a refund from Paypal
- Kumpol_p : trustfull seed seller that I personnaly recommand.

Using Aaron Hicks P668 media (half strengh with paphs), I had success in germinating following Kumpol's seeds so far :

- holcoglossum amesianum
- mastigon putidum
- paphiopedilum concolor
- paphiopedilum godeffroyae
- bulbophyllum macranthum

My only failure : phalaenopsis parishii seeds from Kumpol, but I believe phal seeds have a very short life (please read about it on Aaron website too)

I've bought from him more seeds that I plan to sow next week. Mainly bulbos and cirrhopetalum.
I don't often write here, but read you every day. I waited to have more seeds germinated from Kumpol, before answering here.
I can attached pics if needed, but believe me, Kumpol is ok.

I saw that Kumpol guy on eBay and has a nice repertoire. But not at all that I wanted.........

Does he update his list sometimes?

I purchased 2x or even 3x multiple seeds from the Orchid Seedbank Project, but I never had any germination. When looking at the date the seeds were taken, I see years like 1998 (today it is 2017, even another millennium), 1999, and so. The newest seed date is 2012, which is still half a decade ago.

Can seeds be viable after all that time, even when being stored at 4°C?

The OSP is still online, he still sells his seeds from 1998 to 2012. No newer seeds exist.

My only need are seeds of the Cattleya amethistoglossa. Can anyone help me?

Wouldn't you have to ask youself why he didn't send you real orchid seeds the first time, even if their viability was highly questionable. Lucky you got your money back.

I would be super hesitant to buy orchid seed on eBay at all. I see quite a few seed listings on there, and they're mostly from sellers overseas, and they are mostly obviously fraudulent. Some of the listings feature pictures which are obviously digitally altered, and some of them contain instructions on how to grow the seeds, which read like instructions for planting petunia seeds, not orchids. The people who are making these fraudulent listings don't even bother to know anything about orchids.

Occasionally I see listings on eBay for orchid seed capsules, and it seems like that's at least a little more legit.

But I bet somebody from your local orchid society could hook you up with some proper seeds, maybe even for free.

My problem is, despite of being a member of the local orchid society, no grower here grows the Cattleya amethistoglossa.

Hoping here in this forum, someone does, and can provide a few seeds.
