Transfer seedlings from flask to flask. Question Male
Default Transfer seedlings from flask to flask. Question

Hi to all,

I'm starting to germinate my own orchid seeds, and I already have my first protocorms. I work with a laminar flow hood, and I'm having a problem when I replate protocorms from the mother flask to others.
The thing is that I'm using the wrong instrumental maybe, I use a kind of odontological spoom, but I think that is prety short and results me difficult to work with my fingers. I can't take it very well, and I've made 4 new flak from one mother flask, resulting in three of four flask contaminated. I've lost a lot of little seedlings!

My quiestion is that if you know what specific instrumental can I use to do it well, what other tipes of spoom can I look for, or whatever advice you want to give to me.

I'll try yo post some photos.

Thank you all!

Hugs from Argentina.

I just use long, blunt forceps. Whether you use focreps or a spatula, make sure it's long. The further your hands are from the rim of the flask, the better.

Depending on the size of the protocorm. I use THIS or THIS or some very long tweezers.

I normally use a long spatula, much like the first link that Ben posted. But I've also used home-made tools made by cutting a section of heavy wire and pounding the ends flat. They can be shaped into just about any configuration from a hook to a spoon to a right angle.
