I too have been wanting to do this. I wish I had ten years ago. I'm not sure the story belongs here, but my hope has been renewed.
I has an Asc. that must have been 25-30 years old that never bloomed. I bought it and for two years, no blooms. My mother passed in '96. It bloomed gloriously that year. I had pods and wanted to do something then. Not experienced enough. I lost that orchid about three years later to a surprise frost. I have never found another.
I hope you are successful. I would like to try as well.

It is amazing! I tried to stem propagation few times without glove box and it always become molded. I will save your method for future reference too. Thanks for describing it in detail. Could you, please, share the medium formula too?

Djarum Black 04-02-2007 05:59 PM

To make the Medium:
Add ¼ cup cornstarch to 50 ML of water that has been boiled. (not still hot)
Add ½ tspn 20-20-20 plant fertilizer that contains calcium.
Add 2 more cups of boiled water (not hot)
Add 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon of sugar.

P.S.

I understand you can replate with this same forumla too but it's slower then commercial bought stuff. I've never tried any other type so I haven't measured the time differences yet. Looks like I got a future project hehe

Thanks for the recipe. But seems to me I don't have any idea what is cornstarch. Is it something similar to agar?

Djarum Black 04-03-2007 06:34 PM

Hi Shadow,

This link will explain it better then I could. I buy it at my supermarket in the baking area. I'm not really sure if that helps you any.
