Hi Everyone

You can propagate Thunia species by cutting 2 inch sections of old canes and putting them into spagnum or potting mix. Do you think it is would be possible to sterilise the cut sections as you would Phalaenopsis stems and grow them in flask like meristems?

I would like to do this so I can export them to Australia easily in flask.

I'm not familiar with Thunias, but I'll give you my two cents. Yes, it's possible. The hard part will be sufficiently disinfecting the explant especially if it's an "old cane". Sometimes very old or very short Phal stems give even the pros a hard time. If there are papery sheaths or lots of rough texture it might be pretty tough. Never hurts to try.

Thanks Royal

The stems are a bit shrivelled, but not to much paperyness. I can peel the sheaths off easy enough. I will give it a go and see.

I just got this species. Thunia Bensoniae. Quite rare in most places other than its home country I hear.
