Default winter rest

:sc ratchhead:
when an orchid needs winter rest such as cygnoches, dens at cetera do they still need to be in light? or can they just be put away in a dark corner?

they still need light. in the winter, days are usually shorter (particularly up north in canada) and they may need more light. see this link for more info:

Some orchids that grow in deciduous forests actually get more light during the dry cool winter due to canopy trees loosing leaves.

They still need light...it's just the water, fertilizer and in some cases, the humidity that is adjusted from the end of October to the beginning of March. I use Halloween and Valentine's Day as a general guide.
