dendrobium keiki and new canes
Default dendrobium keiki and new canes

I need some advice. My hubby gave me a dendrobium 2 years ago. It was blooming at the time and has not bloomed since. It has 2 keiki's on the old cane near the top. And, it has about 6 small growths at the base which I think are new canes but they have roots above the soil (see photo 2) and are growing in all directions (up and straight out). These have not gotten much taller in the past 6 months. Do I need to split the plant to encourage growth? What do I do with the cane that has 2 keikis near the top? (You can only see on in the pic since they are on opposite sides of the plant) I do not want to make this plant unhappy, but I think it probably needs split into at least 2 plants if it is going to continue to grow. Advice?

Hi Calicogal, to OB. Dendros like to be potbound. so unless there is something wrong with the roots, I'd leave well enough alone. IMHO

Thanks. for the info. I too think it is plenty happy root bound (nice healthy leaves, several new canes, etc), what do I need to do to get it to bloom? Should I be concerned that the new canes have stopped growing? This is the first orchid I have had that has grown so much foliage so I need some guidance.
