Flask: Do I need to get rid of the dead plants? Male
Default Flask: Do I need to get rid of the dead plants?

I recently had to replate some cattleyas from a flask that had become contaminated. Through this process, I've lost probably 90% of the plants, but there are a few (in different flasks) that are still green.

However, each of the flasks has a fair number of dead plants that didn't survive. Do I need to get those out of there? Can they corrupt the environment for the others? I'm hesitant because I don't want the cure to be worse than the problem—opening up the flasks could introduce contaminants that, thankfully, don't appear to be present at the moment.

Thanks for any advice!

Have you decontaminated the plants before replating them?

If so it shouldn't be a problem, you can just wait until next flasking procedure.

I did do a decontamination prior to the replating using a very diluted hydrogen peroxide wash. I'll let them be and just keep an eye on them. They're not out of the woods yet .

Thank you for the help!

If it doesn't work, 70% ethanol is a good option. Rinse thoroughly in distilled water to avoid burning the tissues.

Fingers crossed!
