Clip on macro lens?

As my flowers keep getting smaller and smaller while my collection of minis grows, I would like to be able to snap some decent pics of them.

Has anyone tried a clip on style macro lens for their phone that they like? Any tips to share? I’m playing around with a cheapo one (Xenvo) that I just picked up but I’m not entirely sure I am sold on it. It doesn’t seem to focus very well for those close up shots or the iPhone screen just goes black. I have an old Nikon D80 that I am trying to avoid buying a lens for.

I have seen (at phone stores) what is advertised as a Haselblad add-on for a specific brand of phone. Saw it in a Verizon store, can't recall which phone brand, no idea if the add-on works or not.

I use a clip-on phone macro lens to capture photos of my
smaller plants/flowers and it has worked great.
My favorite pic with a clip on phone macro lens so far:

Within their limitations, I would say those clip-on lenses for mobile phones work great. Bear in mind that they are sometimes tricky to attach and with that magnifying level, the field depth is short.

With that said, I will share my experience:

I bought this ones from Amazon:

VicTsing Ojo de Pez de 3 en 1 Clip-On con Lente Angular/Ojo de pez 180 Grados + 12X Lente Macro + 24X Lente Macro: Amazon.es: Electronica

And here you can see a few pictures I took (I don't want to bother uploading them again so I'll just link them from my personal blog):

Bob, the silly keiki — My macro lenses arrived! In order of appearance:...

Bob, the silly keiki — Heyyy what’s up guysss! I totally forgot to post...

Overall, I was very pleased with my purchase.

Those are all great pictures. I’m wondering if having a case on my phone might be hindering me a bit. Also, has anyone tried using some sort of steadying device like a little tripod or phone holder?

I see the word Hasselblad and images of my bank account rapidly draining appear:lol::lol:

I do have to take the phone case off in order to use the clip on lens, but then again, I have one of those rugged, heavy duty, phone cases that turn your phone into an indestructible brick. With regular TPU cases I doubt you'd have to take it off.

I don't own a tripod but I wish I had one because it would come in very very handy with such a short depth field. I try to plant my elbows on the table or prop the phone on a book or something if I can.

I use a case and I dont have to take it off.

I own a little phone tripod but dont really yse it because it's pretty vad and my phone keeps falling over.

Usually I just rest the phone on a surface e.g. the edge of the pot or a branch or chair.

I have one. I used it on a little Samsung tablet, and on my Kindle and it took very good pictures. After seeing this post, I decided to dig it out again. It is a good value for about 11 dollars.

I got this one: Mpow iPhone Lens,3 in 1 Clip-On Supreme Fisheye Lens, 0.67X Wide Angle,10X Macro Lens kit for iPhone7/6s/6Plus, iOS &Android Smartphones

Wow, awesome photos! I really like them. I haven't tried clip-on macro lens, but I heard that they are really usefull. Of course, quality won't be the same as in the camera, but they are cheap and really worth. And for sure lighter.

i am going to resurrect this thread as i just got on of these, quite cheap from eBay and it is awesome!!

i can clip it right on the phone over the case i use and when not in use i clip it on the other side of the top of the phone...i only have it on when i am out by the flowers and might want to snap a pic, it does not live on the phone.
