Dog Sunday

1 Attachment(s)
The title is a riff off Orchid Sunday, which an Orchid Board member used to post every now and then. We miss you, John!

Today I clippered Monster, and just finished giving him a bath. I had to do it intermittently to let the Oster cool down between shaves, and do other things while waiting.

You call that fur?! I can get that off 10# Dolly! Just furminating her could yield a sweater. 😂🤣😃😄

But seriously, show us Monster's new do!

As the owner of two short-coated dogs, I can't relate to that much hair! It is vaguely reminiscent of the piles of hair that used to accumulate on the floor of the barn hallway back when I had horses and would give them a good grooming in the spring shedding season.

Today, as yesterday, I am mainly concerned with keeping my dogs (and myself) cool, which means we will simply have to spend most of the day indoors. Temps got to 97 yesterday, and are expected to be close to that today. Neither the dogs nor I do well in high heat and humidity, so even though we have AC in the house, I still have fans running in each room. It's just driving me crazy, though, as there are a lot of things I'd like to be doing outside, the dogs want to go out and play ball, and none of us like being stuck in the house.

I'll be making a vet appointment today for my 10-year-old boy. He's been acting just a little off lately, not quite himself, often listless and tired. That's the one terrible thing about owning dogs is knowing they have a limited lifespan, and now I have one that is ten and one that is eleven. So I just love them each and every day, never taking them for granted, taking the very best care of them that I can, and hoping they both will live what constitutes a long life for their size and breed.

P.S. I miss John, too.

He must feel sooo good and cooler. Brushing my cats never produced such an amt. but I'd hang the fur outside placed in onion bags and the birds, along with hummers, would use it for nests. Yes,John's posts were great. Is he ok?

I've "talked" to John. He was alright. But circumstances led him to leave the OB.

camille1585 06-20-2018 01:15 PM

That'a a lot of fur!! He must be the size of a small pony to produce so much fur. :coverlaugh:

As to John, no point hiding the fact that the 'circumstances' leading him to leave OB were mostly due to me, as he clearly indicated in a PM, because I am a terrible and shitty person/moderator. And that's all I will say about it, though sometimes I think I should have been the one pulling the plug on OB since he was so highly regarded here.

I'm sorry you were so upset. I don't think people should be rude to referees, especially not volunteers.

Dogs and fur...that pile is nothing compared to what our American Eskimo can produce. :)

I 'groomed' our little Maltese-poodle just a week ago. She likes getting rid of her excess hair and even rolls over so I can get her stomach. :)

Sorry for the continued highjack of the thread.

I appreciate the position you have to take but I also appreciate John's forthright "call out" of people. I enjoy the board less than when I first joined. I miss the people who were active then and I don't know why they left/are less active (and some aren't missed at all. If you think John's posts were offensive, there was this one guy...). (Edit: this became a non-sequitor when the post got longer than I anticipated. I might continue to edit by making each sentence a bullet point.:blushing:)

There is an ebb and flow to this board in particular because there is more traffic. If you look at other boards, they tend to be more cliquey. I understand the need for tolerance because I also understand the need for diversity. People have different needs for this board beyond an interest in orchids. I'm saying this as a member who felt trolled (and probably a little tiny bit guilty of troll baiting).

I hope John comes back, I hope you stay on.

End Highjack.

I've had three springer spaniels. I understand piles of fur. When I could afford it, I sent them to the groomers for a #7 field cut!

Glad to have an opportunity to tell you that I hold you in high regard, camille :)

I'm glad you're on OB and would definitely miss you if you left.
