Not seeing all photographs

Hi,

I am not sure where to post this but, as I am a beginner this seemed appropriate!

I have just joined the forum and find that some posts which have photos do not always display them for me. Tomake it a bit clearer - where there is a thumbnail image I can click on it and see it full size but in other posts the text refers to an image which I cannot see in thumbnail or any other. The inference is that the picture is embedded in the text but I may have that wrong! Do they disappear after a time or is there something else I am doing wrong?

Mike

Some do disappear, if it's an old post.

Unless the photos are directly uploaded onto Orchidboard, it happens that they disappear. The links to the images can be broken when people move or delete photos in the photo site where they have their albums. Or there is the case of photobucket, which decided that users can no longer share photos via embedded links unless they pay a large sum of money.

The solution would be to always upload photos directly to OB, but then there needs to be a lot more space on the servers to store so many photos.

Thank you, that explains things.

I know that, with my own personal computer, the amount of bytes photos consume can quickly consume disk space which can slow down a computer. Once I back up my photos, I usually delete them from my computer or phone. I do the same with my photos on Orchid Board once I feel people have lost interest in them. If someone wants to see the photo, I can post it again for them to view.

You can use postimages.org.
At least, for now, it works.

Thanks but I cannot see how to use postimages.org to retrieve pictures from any forum.

Regards,
Mike

I have a backup of all my photos in a external HD, categorized by Genera/plant/date. I do it before uploading to postimages.

My problem is that I cannot see some pictures posted by others.

So the problem is on their side, not yours.
For ex, I used to use photobucket but 6 months ago they decided to change their business model and only allow their paying users to post links to the photos in their servers (the [IMAGE] [/IMAGE] code).
All the older links were deactivated so I "lost" all photos in my older posts.
