Classic Bulbo question: spike or new growth? (Bublo. Wilmar Galaxy Star)
 

I couldn't find any pictures of new spikes on this hybrid (dearei x lobbii), but I know many Bulbo spikes can look like new growths. I *think* it may be a spike, but I could be wrong! Maybe it is too early to tell? Either way I am happy because this guy has only recently started to seem happy in my care. I got it last July with two new growths, both of which stalled. About 2 months ago I repotted in the basket and started keeping it much wetter (watering every day or every other). After that one of the stalled growths died, but the other is finally starting to put out roots and grow (3rd picture). Then I saw this new growth or spike, so I'm feeling pretty good!

Are there any roots coming from it?

There are no obvious roots coming from it, but it's wedged pretty tightly between two ps-bulbs so I'm not sure I could tell even if there were. I think the only advice here is for me to just wait and see. I was just excited since I found this unexpectedly :)

So I am happy to update that I am now 99% sure this is a spike. It doesn't look like anything like the new growth and it swollen at the top like a bud. It still doesn't look like much in the pictures, but I figured I would update since I know that finding images of early spikes on some of these plants can be difficult.

Hmmm, I wouldnt be so sure. Take a look at this growth from my bulbo. It's a bulb.
You'll have to wait a bit longer to find out exactly. I'm not saying it's not a spike, I'm just saying that you'll have to wait a bit longer to find out.

Yes, you're right, it just doesn't look anything like the new growths this plant has put out. I could still be wrong though! Guess I'll knock that percentage down to 75% or so... please.gif

I forgot to ever update this, but for anyone asking the same questions about their plant, this turned out to be a new growth. It actually turned out there were two (!) so now I have two healthy new ps-bulbs and leaves. Hoping for blooms soon!

My B. Wilmar Galaxy Star is at it again with two new growths! Still hasn't flowered... I don't think it gets enough light but I don't have anywhere else to put it unfortunately :(

But, at least that it is happy and growing!
