Yard Orchids And Some - '18-03-10
 

I've been working in the yard a lot lately making a new lawn and planting area out along the roadway.
I want to add a couple of crepe myrtle trees along with a couple more shrubby sized versions of them out along the roadway. Plus, I need a place to move a Furcraea foetida, a large agave type plant, to.
I've also begun to enlarge the yard area by building a pad to install a couple of sheds on.

I've been noticing new blooming orchids in my travels around the yard.
I grabbed the camera and walked the yard for photos.
I couldn't do it all in one day.
Mostly because of having to clear jungle to be able to get a pic of one of the orchids, then rain came in for a couple of days.
It cleared up today and I got the jungle cleared and the rest of the pics taken.

There are a few more that will ready soon.
But, I've waited too long trying to get as many as I could included in this.
Some are ready to begin fading.

The big news is that my Dendrobium lindleyi had put out 7 infloresences.
I was bummed out because two of them began aborting leaving only 5 spikes developing.
Today I looked at it again.
It has 3 more started.
That gives 8 infloresences still developing.
No pics yet.
But, I will be watching it closely.
The next installment will be when they bloom along with anything else that shows up.

Maybe your neighbor needs to purchase their own plants and learn to grow them. I would not have been very happy with anyone picking these. Wow, some people!

The images on the first page look great. I can only get to the first page on my phone. The Web hosting company's link overlies the Page 2 tab.

The Vandas send out roots that run up and down their home tree.
What I'm finding is that those that haven't developed extensive root systems get water stressed during our dry spells, those with the large root systems look lush and very healthy all year long.

Things grow too fast around here.
Keeping the jungle from over running the yard is proving to be a major challenge.
I refuse to use herbicides like many others in the aREA DO.

The new comers are the problem.
It takes time to adjust to new ways of living.
Maybe a jab is the a$$ will help them out.

I wish I had a property like yours...well, but I don't.
Considering the differences, I'm can say I'm doing quite nice!

I've been considering changing from a free hosting to a low cost hosting.
I cannot, or should not, hot link from the free hosting outfit, but can from a paid hosting service.
As usual, I talk about it for a long time before actually doing it.
From a paid host I could put the pics into the posts.
But then, 28 photos in one post is quite a few. You could scroll for a week to get all the way through it.

Did you put a wad of moss on the tree when you planted the Maxillaria tenuifolia, or did organic matter accumulate to form that big bump?

In the second photo of Den. Yukidaruma King, is the mass of stringy grey stuff hanging down all roots?

I did put some Chilean moss under everything that would be directly on a tree trunk to give a water reservoir for it.
For some it was too much, and I has to go back and remove the moss.
I did finally cut the amount of moss padding to a very small amount that supplies water, but not too much.

The Maxillaria t. enjoys the water reservoir and the moss that has grown up around it.

That is Spanish Moss under the Yukidaruma Nobile.
The previous owner had some on another tree, the one with all the various tillandsias on it.
I tore some off and put it in several spots in the vicinity of where the Uki is.
It is still alive but it doesn't seem to be spreading as I had hoped it would.
In case yo didn't know, Spanish Moss is a Tillandsia.
I didn't know that.
It was a big surprise to me when I found out.
