Dendrobium Hilda Poxon 'Red Lips'
5 Attachment(s)
These are from last year's winter blooms. Although most of the plants have red lips, one can still see the variation in color and sizes. My favorite is the one which is suffused with red marks even on the petals.
One plant has very large flowers, almost 5 inches long. I am sorry the pictures are sideways. They were straight up when I was uploading them. |
So unusual.Love the spots and dots.

It doesn't look like a dendrobium but it is a dendrobium...
Cool! |
Amazing...please tell us more about it and care instructions.

This hybrid of Dendrobium speciosum and dendrobium tetragonum is rather easy to grow here in Southern California.
I have it under shade cloth, it receives morning sun and once a week watering, summer, I might water twice. I fertilize with Osmocote once a year. I do watch for scales. This can bloom twice a year. What is so cool is that it blooms on the node of an old bloom, so the same spot on the cane can bloom six times. The colder the weather, the redder it gets too. |
Wow.

Beautiful! I am really loving the look of all of these Australian dendrobium hybrids and the amount of flowers is killer. My wee baby, a Den. Robbie Mcinnes, is just starting to open

It's beautiful. I'm still kicking myself for not getting this one. 5 inches? That's huge. The 2 I have are both small. Now I'm really kicking myself.

What was your source for this hybrid? And what is the mature height?

Hello
I bought these from a collector who was "retiring" from growing orchids. I got specimen size plants from him. He had these for a while. He said he got these from New Zealand, most likely Tuckers, as my Golden Arch have Tucker's tags. They can get as tall as two feet, it looks like some had Speciosum Grandiflorum parentage. I will post more pics as soon as the rains let up. |
