Hello from Seattle!
Hey all,
Just doing the whole "hey i'm new here" thing! :) I've joined my local OS with the next meeting being next Monday and am so excited/slightly intimidated about it all! My first foray into orchids was by way of a gorgeous noID IKEA phal (who ended up being subtly fragrant). Shortly thereafter I bought up two sad and dehydrated Lowe's phals. After watching a few videos from MissOrchidGirl and Astrid, I started smelling grocery store orchids. Low and behold, Trader Joe’s of all places delivers with some noID but fragrant orchids. One reminds me of running around my orange trees as a kid. The sweet smell of orange tree blossoms and rotten dropped fruit. One smells like some straight up vanilla lusciousness and one smells like cherry flavor and crayons. I am hooked. My ever supportive and loving husband has ordered me up some birthday presents from New World Orchids and Ebay (aka, i made life easy for him and ordered my own birthday presents) We have a Sedirea japonica Minmaru Shima, Neofinetia Falcata amami furan (large) and a healthy Neofinetia Falcata Otakamaru. Anyway, I have already posted about my Trader Joe's fragrant noID's and have waxed poetic about my incoming sedirea (phal?) japonica and neofinetia (vanda?) falcata shipments. I am so excited to be part of the orchid growers club and hopefully meet some of you IRL. Hope 2018 is treating you well! |
Welcome to the Orchid Board! I had to smile at your description of your orchid society meetings. I'm pretty new at growing orchids, a little less than three years, and I often feel self-conscious at the meetings, knowing I'm probably the least experienced person there. But I have found that orchid people want to help, they want to answer your questions, and they will cheer you on with your accomplishments, both in person and on this board. :)

Wow, I just posted my own intro yesterday, so I'm new here myself, and I have to say, you seem to have an impressive collection for a beginner! Also, MissOrchidGirl's videos are so helpful. Anyway, welcome.

Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have a nice start. Astrid use to frequent this board but hasn't been on in a while.

Hello and welcome!
I was terrified to go to my first Orchid Society meeting as I had no idea what to expect and I did not know anyone (I found the OS online) but it turned out that the people were really nice. Just remember, you instantly have something in common with everyone there...an interest (or possibly an addiction) to orchids. :) Great to have you join and good luck at your first meeting! |
Welcome to the board! If you have moved into Sedirea and Neofinetia you are in for a treat! Sedirea Japonica are such sweet little plants and Neos, well they are my new passion in orchids. I’ve been bitten by the Neo bug and I’m enjoying every minute of it. I love the different plants, leaves, roots, flowers, tsuke shapes and especially the amazing history behind this plant!
There is a ton of information available on this forum, much more information than I’ve actually found elsewhere, and I invite you to relax and read as much as you can absorb about this amazing orchid. If you’ve not received your plants from NWO yet, please post pictures when they arrive. So exciting to have another Neo fan on the board! |
