Has anyone seen Zygopetalum has two spikes from the same growth
 

Hi, everyone!

I am new here. I have a zygopetalum that seems to have two spike grow out of same new growth, Has anyone seen this before? The first spike is pretty big and about to bloom, then I discoved that second one coming out of same growth.

I googled, but didn't find thing about two pikes from same growth.

This is a grocery store bought zygo, last bloom was two years ago.

Mine produce at least two spikes from each pseudobulb, usually at the same time, but sometimes sequentially which I prefer as it extends the flowering time.

Yes, it happens regularly. Isn't that nice? :)

Mine never bloomed... too young, I think.

For all of you who regularly has two spike out of one pseudobulb, please share your formula of success. What do you do? Anything special you do in terms of fertilization, watering....?

There is no magic formula. Find out what the plant likes and give it those conditions. That's why growing orchids is so hard, yet so compelling... there are so many different ones, with different requirements. Zygos like different conditions than do Vandas.

You can use the Search function, above, to look for threads dealing with how people grow Zygos. You can also page through the Maxillaria forum, thread by thread, and read the Zygo threads. You will learn a lot that way. That's how many people learn how to grow orchids nowadays.

I think the key to keeping them healthy, and therefore flowering is to keep them moist at all times, I find they are really thirsty and require regular watering.
