Saturday Morning Project - Neo potting
Spent a rainy day giving the 'Japanese' potting a try...
My Neofinetia falcata, bought last autumn. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...Neofinetia.jpg New arrival, Ascf. Cherry Blossom (Neof. falcata x Asctm. ampullaceum) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...rryBlossom.jpg Vandofinetia Pat Arcari 'Nuit Blue' http://www.orchidboard.com/community...aPatArcari.jpg The colour is off in these photos - that's the same wall, so should be the same colour! Can't seem to get good shots once the sun's gone down... but you get the idea. I've had a good morning! :D |
Rather excellent job I would say!

They are so freakin' cute! Nice job! |
Thanks guys! It was a great way to spend the morning... I think they look really neat like this, I'm definitely a convert. I can't wait to get my hand on more!! I also potted up some Dens in little bonsai dishes. They look pretty cool too. I'll see if I can get some pics...

I LOVE it. . .you did sooooo good! That looks so beautiful planted that way. Did you go with the cavity or the solid moss ball?
Can't think of a nicer way to spend the day! Makes me smile to know that you had such a fun time playing with your orchids. I think I mentioned that I had ordered another Neo., not an expensive, but it's not here yet. As soon as I get it, I'll try this technique too. I can hardly wait. Will post pics too. |
I love that look
I did mine recently using an openwork ceramic trinket box... http://www.orchidboard.com/community...hp?photo=10391 Did you wrap the moss around a bottle to get the cavity? |

Gwen, and its all thanks to you!! Thanks for posting those instructions! Can't wait to see photos of your's! I think I have decided on going to the London Orchid Show next weekend - simply in the hopes of find a variegated Neo!
Sue, Very nicely done with your's! What a creative thing to do! I used the bottle to get a cavity. My Neo (and one of the hybrids) was growing in a small basket with very little - or no - media, so they're very used to having lots of air around the roots. I wanted as much 'space' in the pot as possible. Snow, if you give it a try, be sure to post photos! I love looking at all the different ones... Here's some inspiration that I found: Grand Prix And here was my inspiration for repotting the Dens: (third photo down, right at the front...) Grand Prix 2 and here's my Den. williamsonii - about to flower soon!! Attachment 9970 and the Den. brymerianum: Attachment 9969 |
now i am even more inspired
thanks for the great photo,s |
